Liverpool shirt numbers available to Ibrahima Konate as transfer finalised

Ibrahima Konate has become Liverpool's first signing of the summer as the defender has sealed his long-awaited switch to Anfield.

The Reds have triggered the £35million release clause in his RB Leipzig contract as Jurgen Klopp brings in reinforcements at the centre-half position.

Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are all recovering from long-term injuries and with their return dates unknown, Konate will be at the forefront of Liverpool's plans for the beginning of the new Premier League season.

The 22-year-old helped steer Julian Nagelsmann's side to a runner-up finish in the Bundesliga this season, partnering Dayot Upamecano who will join Bayern Munich this summer along with the German coach.

Which shirt number should Ibrahima Konate take at Liverpool? Comment below.

Since Konate's move to Liverpool has now been made official let's look at the shirt numbers the new recruit could take.

The number 2 jersey is the most obvious one vacant for a new defender and hasn't been worn since Nathaniel Clyne's exit last term. Stephane Henchoz and Glen Johnson wore the shirt during their time with the club too.

Gigi Wijnaldum's number 5 is also set to be available as he looks set to join Barcelona.

Liverpool are also not looking to make Ozan Kabak's loan move permanent from Schalke which means the number 19 is up for grabs, while Adrian's uncertain future leaves 13 a possibility for Konate.

The number 24 jersey is also vacant following Rhian Brewster's move to Sheffield United last summer, while the number 25 shirt is also available.

Dominic Solanke and Fabio Borini's old number 29 shirt is also available, with numbers 30 and 31 also free, last worn by Suso and Raheem Sterling, while number 33 remains vacant since Jordon Ibe joined Bournemouth.

Adam Bogdan's old number 34 , Kevin Stewart's previous number 35 and Samed Yesil's former number 36 are also up for grabs.

Numbers 37, 38 and 39 worn by Jari Litmanen and Martin Skrtel, Jon Flanagan and Craig Bellamy respectively are available, while number 40 has remained vacant since Ryan Kent made the switch to Rangers.

There are also several unallocated numbers at Liverpool at the moment that Konate could take.

43, 44, 49, 55, 70, 71, 74, 79, 80, 82, 86, 87, 88, 90, 91, 94, 95, 96, 97.
