Liverpool set to take Anfield capacity beyond 60,000 as expansion plans prepared

Liverpool are preparing to host a series of consultation events designed to show local residents and fans how they will boost the capacity of Anfield beyond 60,000.

An expansion of the Anfield Road End stand - the opposite end to the Kop - has long been on the agenda for the Reds, but initial plans were allowed to lapse in August as they were not considered ambitious enough.

Those plans were for an extra 4,000 seats to be added, but upon review owners Fenway Sports Group decided not to act upon them.

Instead they allowed them to run their course, with new plans that will add over 6,000 seats expected to be shown to residents and fans over the coming weeks.

Anfield currently has an official capacity of 54,074, but club officials are well aware that there has never been a greater demand to see the European champions and the side currently riding high at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool might currently be top of the tree in English football, but they only boast the sixth largest stadium in the Premier League behind Manchester United , Tottenham , Arsenal , West Ham and Manchester City .

There is hope that the new plans will take the Reds in line with the capacities of Arsenal's Emirates Stadium and the London Stadium at West Ham, as well as approaching the 62,214 capacity of Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium.

Five consultation events are set to take place over the coming weeks, with three of them held at the Kop Bar within the stadium.

Two more events at pop-up stands will then be held in the hours before the Premier League matches against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, November 30 and Everton on Wednesday, December 4.
