Liverpool set to seal Adrian transfer as Simon Mignolet replacement

Liverpool are close to finalising a move for former West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian as replacement for the departing Simon Mignolet.

Mignolet will on Monday complete a move to Club Brugge after the Reds agreed a deal worth 7m euros which could rise to 9m in bonuses.

And they have moved quickly to fill the breach by identifying Adrian, who is a free agent having left the Hammers during the summer.

The 32-year-old Spaniard was earmarked earlier this summer as a possible goalkeeping alternative should Mignolet leave.

And while Mignolet featured regularly during pre-season, his desire for first-team football and a good offer from Club Brugge have prompted Liverpool to reluctantly allow him to leave.

Liverpool required another goalkeeper option with Caoimhin Kelleher and Kamil Grabara both untested at senior level for the club and currently injured.

Adrian declined a new contract at West Ham last season having fallen behind Lukas Fabianski in the pecking order, adding only five appearances to his previous 145 for the Londoners.

Should, as expected, the formalities be completed, he will be on the bench for the Premier League opener at home to Norwich City.
