Liverpool set to reach 14 C after snow and sub zero temperatures

Liverpool is set to see an end to freezing cold weather, with temperatures set to rocket into double figures today.

Last week Merseyside saw incredibly low temperatures with many days with highs of only two degrees.

The chilly conditions across the UK froze Trafalgar Square's fountains in London and brought large amounts of snowfall to regions across the country.

But that's all set to change this week with much milder weather and highs of 14 degrees by the weekend.

However there will be wetter weather along with the higher temperatures.

Forecasters are now optimistic about the change in the weather and the rising temperatures.

Chris Fawkes from BBC Weather said: "We’re starting to draw up more of a southerly flow of wind and that will start to drag up some of the warmer air from North Africa and Spain which will push across westerly Europe and in across parts of the United Kingdom.

“Saturday and Sunday, particularly Sunday, parts of eastern England will see temperatures as high as 17C, way above average for the time of year, and that warmth will last into Sunday as well.”

The Met Office forecast for the North West said: "Much of Monday will be dry, but a spell of light rain is possible. Breezy but a very mild day, with temperatures into double figures.

"This evening will be dry, but overnight there will be spells of rain. Rain heavy at times, and with blustery winds. A mild night. Fog over the moors. Turning drier later in the night.

"Tomorrow will be another mild day. There will be a mixture of patchy cloud, bright spells, and scattered showers. Some showers will be heavy, perhaps with the odd rumble of thunder. Blustery winds.

"Wednesday will see showers and outbreaks of rain sweep in from the southwest, with rain heavy at times, and accompanied by blustery winds.

"Thursday will begin wet, but turning drier later with sunny spells.

"Further rain is expected on Thursday night into Friday. Winds will strengthen on Friday, as spells of rain push in from the west, with rain heavy at times."
