Liverpool 'set to miss out' on £43m Gavi transfer after 'positive' talks with Barcelona

Liverpool have been linked with many midfielders ahead of the summer transfer, but their reported pursuit of Gavi has been dealt a blow after it was claimed he has held 'positive' contract talks with Barcelona.

The 17-year-old superstar only has one year left on his deal at Barcelona and has been pursued by Liverpool - who reportedly considered triggering his £43 million release clause this summer.

However, it now seems as though Gavi will sign a new deal to stay in Spain after positive talks between his agent and Barcelona. The midfielder made 47 appearances for the Spanish giants in all competitions last season.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Gavi's representative - former Barcelona midfielder Ivan de la Pena - held 'positive' talks with the Catalan club. Xavi is desperate to keep hold of a player that is key to them winning trophies again.

Liverpool look set to miss out on Gavi after previously missing out on new Real Madrid signing Aurelien Tchouameni after the Frenchman completed an £85 million move to the Spanish champions last weekend.
