Liverpool set to freeze as temperatures plummet to minus 2

Liverpool has faced bitterly cold weather this week and tonight temperatures are set to tumble even further.

Thursday night will see the mercury drop below freezing, with a low of minus two predicted as cloud clears and temperatures fall.

Friday will also be extremely cold, with temperatures struggling to stay above freezing.

The weekend is forecast to be chilly, but towards Monday there should be a change in weather systems with a warmer but wetter week predicted for next week.

The whole of the UK has been hit by chilly temperatures with snow falling across many places in the east of the country.

The Met Office forecast for the entire North West said: "A cold night with south-easterly winds, leading to a widespread frost.

"Staying dry, and cloud will build from the west for a time. The cloud will then clear in the early hours of the morning.

"Friday will stay cold with south-easterly winds continuing. Mainly dry with sunshine.

"A few patches of cloud may bring the odd wintry shower, but there will be sunny spells in any cloud breaks.

"Saturday will continue cold with cloud building from the west in the morning, followed by the risk of some light snow through the afternoon and evening.
