Liverpool set to beat Man Utd to Takumi Minamino January transfer deal at bargain price

Liverpool are closing in on a January move for RB Salzburg forward Takumi Minamino.

The Reds are preparing to steal a march on Manchester United by triggering the Japan international’s £7.25m release clause next month.

The club’s transfer chiefs consider that a snip for a player they believe is worth as much as three times that figure.

Jürgen Klopp has long been an admirer of Minamino, who announced himself to Liverpool fans with two outstanding performances in the sides’ Champions League group-stage meetings this month.

The 24-year-old has scored 63 goals in 192 appearances for the Austrian champions since arriving from Cerezo Osaka in 2014.

He has also been prolific at international level, netting 11 times in just 22 games for Japan following a 2015 debut against Iran.
