Liverpool set to bask in sunshine as 'heatwave' arrives next week

Liverpool is set to hot up next week, as a heatwave arrives.

The city and surrounding area will see temperatures reach a high of 24 degrees by Wednesday next week.

This week has seen a colder spell across Merseyside, with the record temperatures in April a distant memory.

But next week sees scorching sunshine arrive again - perfect now we're allowed to picnic in parks and on beaches, while maintaining social distancing, under the lockdown relaxation.

Temperatures will remain low this weekend with only a high of 16 degrees expected on Sunday.

But from Tuesday the mercury will rocket with good weather and high temperatures expected until the following weekend.

The Met Office long range UK forecast, starting next Tuesday, said: "To start the period, high pressure should dominate with most parts of the UK seeing largely fine and dry conditions, with variable cloud and bright or sunny spells.

"The far north/northwest may turn less settled with a greater chance of cloudier skies, outbreaks of rain and stronger winds at times here.

"Temperatures look to take an upward trend over the next two weeks with most areas becoming warm, especially in the south and east.

"Through the middle and towards the end of the period, there looks to be a continuation of the settled weather as high pressure stays in control.

"Most places should remain largely dry with plenty of brightness or sunshine as well as light winds."
