Liverpool set for Geneva showdown as part of pre-season plans

Liverpool are set to play a friendly against Lyon in Geneva as part of their pre-season preparations for the 2019/20 campaign.

The Reds are expected to face the Ligue One outfit at the 30,000-capacity Stade de Geneve on Wednesday, July 31.

It would take place during the club's training camp in France following the tour of the United States.

Plans for all the warm-up games are nearly completion with Liverpool playing at least two away friendlies in the UK before going to America.

In keeping with recent years, they will make the short trip to face Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

That match is pencilled in for Thursday, July 11 with a big crowd certain following Rovers' promotion to League One.

Liverpool are also planning a game at Bradford City on Sunday, July 14.

Jurgen Klopp's squad will then spend a week in the States with matches against Borussia Dortmund in Indiana (July 19), Sevilla in Boston (July 21) and Sporting Lisbon in New York (July 24).

The Reds had been in talks to play Napoli at Tottenham's new stadium on Sunday, July 28 but ditched that idea ahead of the Champions League final. Instead Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium is among a number of venues under consideration.

Lyon in Switzerland on July 31 would be the final game before the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley on the weekend of August 3/4.

Liverpool also intend to organise a friendly at Anfield in the following midweek ahead of their opening Premier League fixture.
