Liverpool set another two historic landmarks as they chase down Man City total

Liverpool have set another two landmarks as they continue to pursue Manchester City's record points tally.

Thursday’s 3-1 victory at Brighton and Hove Albion was the Reds’ 30th league victory of the campaign.

They achieved it in their 34th game – the quickest anyone has ever reached the significant milestone in English history.

It is only the seventh time a team have registered 30 wins in a top-flight season, with Liverpool now responsible for three of them.

Jurgen Klopp’s side managed the feat last season as did the title-winning team of 1978/79, although that was from 42 games and not the 38 played in the modern era.

Liverpool now stand on 92 points and need to win three of their remaining four games to beat City’s all-time record of 100 points set in 2017/18.

Two wins will see the Reds surpass last season’s club record of 97 points, while one more away success – at either Arsenal or Newcastle United – will guarantee a club record for most league victories on the road in a season.

Meanwhile, with two goals and an assist against Brighton, Mohamed Salah has reached 100 goal involvements for Liverpool in the Premier League with 73 goals and 27 assists in 104 appearances.

He is only the fourth Reds player to reach a century, following Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen.
