Liverpool sent Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Premier League title warning

Liverpool have been warned not to write off Jose Mourinho and Tottenham in the Premier League title race.

The Reds head into the New Year top of the table but have seen their lead narrowed after draws with strugglers West Brom and Newcastle in recent matches.

Meanwhile, Spurs have struggled for form in December after seemingly putting themselves in title contention with a run of results that included wins over rivals Arsenal and Man City.

Jose Mourinho's side are winless in four Premier League games, including a last-gasp defeat at Anfield when Roberto Firmino headed home for Liverpool in stoppage time, leaving them seven points off top spot.

But Spurs legend Jurgen Klinnsmann has warned it would be foolish to dismiss Mourinho's men.

He told ESPN: "They are still there.

"This is really now a crucial time period, how to get through the winter period now, Christmas, New Year, and then how things will look like in February [or] March when the European competitions are coming up again, and you play the FA Cup as well.

"Jose Mourinho is known for being very, very strategic in everything he's doing. He is still there, so don't write them off only because they don't maybe play the most exciting football at the moment. They are still among the contenders."

Tottenham now face Premier League matches with Leeds, Aston Villa and Sheffield United before hosting Liverpool at the end of January. They will also travel to Merseyside to take on Crosby outfit Marine in the third round of the FA Cup.
