Liverpool sent Harvey Barnes transfer message as Sadio Mane investment plans revealed

Here is your Liverpool morning digest on Saturday, February 13.

Barnes watch

Liverpool know a player who is on the verge of becoming a superstar when they see one - and in Leicester City forward Harvey Barnes, the Reds are set to face someone in that bracket this weekend.

It had been hoped that Jordan Henderson could move back into midfield for this one, should Jurgen Klopp play one of Ozan Kabak or Ben Davies alongside Fabinho at the King Power Stadium.

The Liverpool captain will be needed to help Trent Alexander-Arnold stem the attacking threat that Barnes brings to Leicester's side.

Fabinho's injury setback, however, might mean that is no longer possible.

Blood Red: Brendan Rodgers on why he reached out to Jurgen Klopp

"Barnes has made a leap this season in terms of stepping up his game," said Josh Williams on the Analysing Anfield podcast.

"When Liverpool were after Diogo Jota from Wolves last summer, Barnes was a compatible player that Liverpool could have taken.

"His output was similar and you could see how it was scalable and possibly at Anfield he would be able to blend in with a group of better players, becoming something more - maybe like Sadio Mane did.

"Every single player I have watched him come up against - and he plays on the left, so whatever right-back - I have not seen a single player get the better of him.

"I distinctly remember watching him against Everton and he had Mason Holgate on toast. Even the likes of Kyle Walker have struggled with him.

"He is really direct and up for the battle, and Rodgers said that he is the type to play better with anger, when he is wound up."

Mane plans revealed

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is planning to invest in French fourth tier side Bourges Foot.

Mane has held talks with both the president of the club, who play in National 2 Group D, and the mayor of Bourges regarding his proposals.

While the coronavirus pandemic has meant the 28-year-old has been unable to attend in person, the Reds attacker has expressed his desire to embark on a long-term project with the development of youth facilities and a women's team.

A close associate of Mane, Pape Dieng, has already met with Bourges Foot president Cheikh Sylla, who is also Senegalese.

“There are contacts with Sadio, yes," said Sylla, speaking to Le Berry Republicain. "We would like him to come and invest and work with us in Bourges.

"But with the pandemic, we are not moving forward, we are waiting.

"We wanted to initiate a dynamic with Sadio, meet him face-to-face, work with him on this project, but unfortunately, due to the current situation, we can't see him yet."

Mane has held a number of telephone conversations with both Sylla and the mayor of Bourges, Yann Galut.

And Galut said: "The relations and exchanges that we have with Sadio Mane are serious."
