Liverpool sent Diogo Jota transfer reminder amid £67m Luis Diaz links

Liverpool have been told it would be a 'surprise' if they signed Porto winger Luis Diaz.

The Reds have been linked with the Colombia international, who has attracted plenty of interest from across Europe.

Diaz is thought to have an €80million (£67m) release clause in his contract at Porto - with the Portuguese club said to be not willing to negotiate a fee below that figure.

Various reports have claimed that Liverpool are preparing to make a bid for the 25-year-old.

However, there have been others that suggest the Reds are not even in talks to sign Diaz.

There have also been reports that both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have made moves to bring the rising star to the Premier League.

And former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson says he'd be surprised if Liverpool spent in excess of £60m on one player - even if they need to.

“It’s certainly against what Liverpool do in terms of going out and splashing the cash,” Johnson told BettingOdds.com .

“But at the end of the day, if you want a player who’s linked with a host of other big clubs then you have to pay.

“I’ll be surprised if they pay that much money, but they do need another player in that position who can come into the side in the same way that Diogo Jota did.”
