Declan Rice transfer message sent to Liverpool amid £100m rumours

Liverpool hero Peter Crouch has told his former club to hijack a move for Arsenal target Declan Rice.

After shelving initial plans to pursue Real Madrid-bound Jude Bellingham this summer - due to the financial costs involved - the Reds have kicked-off their ongoing recruitment drive by signing Argentina player Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton. Further midfield additions are now expected to follow.

France starlets Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone have been mooted in that regard, but Crouch reckons Liverpool should push the boat out to bring in 'classy' England international Rice instead. Rice is expected to leave West Ham this summer after guiding them to the Europa Conference League trophy.

However, similarly to fellow England midfielder Bellingham, the 24-year-old will cost a pretty penny if he does go. Potential suitors - including Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Manchester City - might have to splash out £100m or more on his sought-after signature.

According to Crouch, though, it would be worth it. He told Paddy Power: "Alexis Mac Allister is a good signing for Liverpool. He's a great player, but fans will want some more signings before next season, defensive reinforcements and another midfielder would be welcome.

"I know he's being linked elsewhere, but I'd absolutely love to see Declan Rice come in as well. He's a class act and I think he could go to any club and he'd be a great signing for them.

"It probably won't be Liverpool as he's going to be very expensive. He would be a great addition."

Crouch, who made 135 appearances for Liverpool over three seasons, continued: "I was delighted to see him [Rice] pick up the Europa Conference League trophy with West Ham. People sniff at the competition, but I thought it was brilliant and you've seen the scenes.

"The players, the fans, the manager, they absolutely loved it - I was so pleased for them."
