Liverpool send messages to Chinese supporters during Manchester United victory

Liverpool sent a series of messages aimed at their Chinese supporters during their 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah extended the Reds’ unbeaten start to their Premier League campaign, and also moved them one step closer to ending their 30-year wait for a league title.

Jurgen Klopp’s side now sit 16-points clear of second-place Manchester City and have amassed 64 points from a possible 66 on offer this season.

But while all eyes were on what was happening on the pitch, off the pitch the Reds were attempting to strengthen their brand in the Far East.

To mark Chinese New Year - which is next Saturday, the Reds opted to display a host of messages on advertising hoardings around the Anfield pitch.

"Liverpool Football Club wishes everyone a happy new year," the first message read.

The second and third, meanwhile, paid tribute to forward Divock Origi and full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

They read: "May all your hopes be fulfilled with Origi” and “Everything will go smoothly with Arnold".

Liverpool last visited the Far East in the summer of 2017,  to take part in the Premier League Asia Trophy.

The Reds’ stay in the Far East lasted just six days and saw them beat Crystal Palace in the semi-finals and Leicester in the final.

Since then, Klopp has opted to take his side to the US, but reports before Christmas suggested that Liverpool could be returning to Asia this summer.
