Liverpool send message of love to Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford

Liverpool have sent a message of love to "remarkable" role model Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United forward succeeded in his campaign for schoolchildren to claim free meals during the summer holidays.

Around 1.3million eligible children in England will now benefit from the six-week voucher thanks to the efforts of Rashford, who became the unofficial spokesperson for the cause.

The Government had previously maintained they would not award free school meal vouchers in England outside of term time.

That prompted Rashford to write an open letter to MPs asking for the decision to be reversed, citing his own childhood receiving free school meals.

All children eligible for free school meals in England can now take advantage of the Covid Summer Food Fund.

Liverpool food bank workers have already hailed the difference the Government U-turn will make to families on Merseyside.

And now Liverpool Football Club have sent out their own message of gratitude to Rashford.

Responding to a message from Manchester United praising the striker, the Reds' Twitter account posted: "Children in our region will benefit because of the actions of this remarkable role model. From Liverpool With Love."
