Liverpool sell goalkeeper in multi-million pound deal after loan return

Liverpool have sold goalkeeper Kamil Grabara to FC Copenhagen in a multi-million deal.

The 22-year-old has left Anfield permanently following five years with the Reds, having spent the past two-and-a-half seasons out on loan with a spell with Championship side Huddersfield Town sandwiched by two stints with Danish team AGF Aarhus.

The ECHO understands Liverpool have agreed a £3m package with Copenhagen for the Poland youth international’s services, with the deal including a 20% sell-on clause and seeing the shot-stopper link up with Sporting Director Peter Christiansen for a third time following their time together at AGF.

With Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian both signing new contracts at Anfield this summer, club insiders confirmed Grabara had wished to leave the club in search of first team football, in a bid to start staking a claim for a place in the senior Poland national team alongside Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski.

And with no suitable offers forthcoming in England, Liverpool had no qualms signing off on a move to Copenhagen for the goalkeeper once they had followed up on their initial interest, with a deal to one of Danish football’s most historic clubs believed to be in the best interests of all parties.

Grabara never made a senior appearance for the Reds after joining the club's Academy set-up in the summer of 2016, but did train regularly with Jurgen Klopp 's first team, feature in their pre-season schedule before the 2018/19 season and was an unused substitute for their League Cup defeat to Chelsea in September 2018.
