Liverpool seek Barcelona rethink over 'disgusting' wheelchair ticket allocation

Liverpool are hoping that Barcelona will have a rethink after giving the club just five wheelchair tickets for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at Camp Nou.

The Reds have contacted the Catalan giants in the hope of securing extra places for the game on Wednesday, May 1.

The tiny allocation in a stadium that holds 97,000 fans on European nights has angered Liverpool supporters, who traditionally get around 20 to 30 wheelchair tickets at Premier League grounds.

The Liverpool key to beating Barcelona revealed as hidden impact of Joe Gomez emerges

Kopite Pete Rodgers, who has attended three European away matches with the Reds so far this season, is among those in danger of missing out on the club's first trip to the Nou Camp since 2007.

He told the ECHO: “I go all over in my wheelchair following the Reds home and away.

“There are disabled lads I know on eight Euro aways who aren’t going to get a ticket for Barcelona as things stand.

Philippe Coutinho sends message to Liverpool fans and shares surprise favourite Champions League memory

“To only provide five wheelchair tickets is disgusting for a club who tout themselves as the biggest in the world.

“Put into context, Bournemouth (who have a capacity of just 11,000), gave us 20 plus wheelchair tickets.”

Liverpool have been given a total of 4,620 tickets for the first leg priced at £103 (€119).

The Reds wanted to agree a lower reciprocal price like they did with FC Porto in the last round but Barcelona weren’t interested.

As a result Liverpool decided to also charge Barca fans £103 for the second leg at Anfield on May 7 and then use the extra revenue to subsidise away ticket costs by €31 (£27). That brings the price down to €88 (£76).

Manchester United adopted the same policy for their quarter-final clash with Barca after their fans were hit with the same sky-high prices.
