Liverpool have had a £50m bid for Yankuba Minteh rejected by Brighton. The club are looking to add two wide forwards to Andoni Iraola’s squad before the transfer deadline, with their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola continuing.

Liverpool’s shortlist of targets also includes Minteh but Brighton, who have lost Danny Welbeck to Chelsea and have Kaoru Mitoma out injured, have rebuffed the approach for the 22-year-old winger.

Minteh has scored nine goals in 66 Premier League appearances since joining Brighton from Newcastle for £30m two years ago and is reportedly open to becoming a Liverpool player. He is recovering from surgery having suffered a leg injury in a pre-season friendly against Roma this month and could be sidelined for another eight weeks. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool increase their offer for the Gambia international.

Liverpool have added the versatile Victor Muñoz to their forward options this summer for £34.5m but are yet to fill the right-sided void created by Mohamed Salah’s departure. Minteh has mostly operated on the right for Fabian Hürzeler’s team.

PSG’s £145m valuation of Barcola has forced Liverpool to consider alternative wide options including the France international’s teammate Ibrahim Mbaye. Interest in Mbaye has not developed into an offer for the 18-year-old at this stage, however.

Curtis Jones has been given permission to undergo a medical in Italy after Liverpool agreed a £30m deal with Inter for the midfielder. The Italian champions made a breakthrough in their long-running pursuit of the 25-year-old when offering €30m plus €5m in bonuses on Wednesday.
