Liverpool secure additional ticket allocation for Uefa Super Cup tie against Chelsea in Istanbul

Liverpool have secured an additional ticket allocation for their upcoming Uefa Super Cup meeting with Chelsea.

The Reds were initially allotted just 5,257 tickets for the August 14 meeting with the Europa League holders in Istanbul.

And strong interest from supporters since sales began on Tuesday has prompted the club to request extra tickets from European football's governing body.

Liverpool have subsequently received what they describe as a “small” supplementary allocation from Uefa for the game at Vodafone Park.

As such, officials have decided to sell the extra tickets to those who missed out in the ballot for the Champions League Final clash against Tottenham.

The Reds received 30,508 applications for that ballot, which was undertaken by the Electoral Reform Service, having received an allocation of just 16,613 tickets.

Unsuccessful applicants will now have another chance to watch their team in a European showpiece fixture, though the club have warned that demand is likely to outstrip supply once again.

A section of the club's ticket notice read: “The number of qualifying supporters will far exceed the number of tickets available during this sale and therefore no guarantee can be given that tickets will be available to all who apply.”
