Liverpool have cancelled their pre-season friendly with Schalke following the release of the Premier League fixture list.
The Reds were set to face the German club at Anfield on Tuesday, August 6, two days on from their Community Shield meeting with Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.
And, while that scheduling was not considered an issue, confirmation of a season-opening meeting Norwich City on Friday, August 9 has seen the fixture postponed.
The game against Schalke, managed by Jurgen Klopp’s old friend and former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner, will now take place in 2020, likely during next summer's pre-season.
Tickets for the fixture were supposed to go on sale to season ticket holders from 8.15am on Thursday morning.
However, fans attempting to make a purchase through the club’s official website were met with an error message.
It read: “Due to essential system maintenance, ticket sales for this fixture have been postponed.
“A further update will be provided on Thursday 13 June.”
It is unclear whether Liverpool will look to add further friendlies to an already busy fixture list to make up for the loss of Schalke’s visit to Anfield.
Klopp’s men kickstart their pre-season plans with games against Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City before heading to the United States to take on Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Sporting Lisbon.
Games against Napoli and Lyon in Edinburgh and Geneva respectively follow, before a clash with Manchester City for the first trophy of the campaign in the capital.
