Liverpool's Xherdan Shaqiri joins Gini Wijnaldum and Cristiano Ronaldo on elite Euro 2020 list

Xherdan Shaqiri has been named alongside Gini Wijnaldum and Cristiano Ronaldo among the top players in UEFA's Fantasy Team of the Group Stage.

The team is made up of the highest-scoring players so far in the official UEFA Euro 2020 Fantasy Football game after the first three matchdays.

Shaqiri's brace helped Switzerland to victory over Turkey in the Group A finale but it wasn't enough to secure second place as they narrowly missed out on goal difference but they did qualify for the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams.

The 29-year-old also got an assist in their group opener against Wales as his corner was headed home by Breel Embolo. His goal was eventually cancelled out by Welsh forward Kieffer Moore.

Switzerland were easily pushed aside by Roberto Mancini's Italy as Manuel Locatelli's double and Ciro Immobile's goal saw Shaqiri's side on the wrong end of a 3-0 score-line.

Many Reds fans were continuing to question the decision to not extend Gini Wijnaldum's Liverpool contract during the tournament's early stages.

The 30-year-old Dutchman has been instrumental for Frank de Boer as they shook off the nervy finish against Ukraine to finish top of the group.

Wijnaldum is among the tournament's top scorers, two behind Cristiano Ronaldo who raced clear with his two penalties against France in their final match of the first round.

The Holland captain chipped in with a brace of his own as Oranje beat North Macedonia 3-0.

Switzerland face the tough task of playing world champions France in the next round as Holland play the Czech Republic.

Portugal meanwhile will face Belgium.
