Liverpool's wage bill compared to Premier League and European rivals with dominance made to look even better

Liverpool are currently riding high at the top of the Premier League table and look well on course to end their wait for a league title.

The Reds have been waiting 30-years to be crowned Kings of England once again, but with Jurgen Klopp’s side now 22 points clear of second-placed Manchester City, they are just six wins away from Premier League glory.

Klopp’s side are on the brink of achieving immortality with their league title win set to come just under a year after they claimed their sixth European Cup in Madrid.

But what makes the achievements even more remarkable is that according to the latest Sporting Intelligence global sports salaries survey, the Reds only have the third highest wage bill in the Premier League and the eighth in Europe.

Eight different sports are included in the survey, with 350 teams from 18 leagues across 12 different countries.

And according to the figures released, Liverpool has an annual weekly pay of £5,537,600 and a yearly average pay of £106,492.

Manchester City has the highest average pay of any Premier League club, standing at £134,375 weekly, which puts them 13th on the global list.

Manchester United are next on the list of English Premier League sides with an average weekly pay of £117,800, which puts them 33rd on the global list.

Arsenal and Chelsea are 44th and 45th on the global list respectively, with Everton 57th on the global list with an average weekly pay of £78,880, and Tottenham 62nd in the list with an average weekly pay of £76,482.

Spanish side Barcelona are top of the global list with an average weekly pay of £188,993, ahead of La Liga rivals Real Madrid (£171,611) and Serie A champions Juventus, who are third on the list with an average weekly pay of £155,487.

While the average annual salary per player in the Premier League is £3,173,264, which is up 6.1% year on year.

The Boston Red Sox, who are also owned by Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group, are one place above the Reds in the global sports salaries list, with the Major League Baseball side having an average weekly pay of £5,564,455 and an average yearly salary of £107,009.
