Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk trains at Rangers pre-season base as Steven Gerrard eyes former team-mate

Liverpool's defensive colossus Virgil van Dijk has been spotted using the same training facility as Steven Gerrard's Rangers squad.

The Dutch skipper was pictured maintaining his fitness alongside his personal trainer in Portugal this week.

Gerrard's team are also using the location for a pre-season training camp.

With Aston Villa's assistant manager John Terry also said to have used the facility this summer.

This comes as the former Liverpool captain, Gerrard, has reportedly made a third bid for ex-Reds' defender Martin Skrtel.

The Daily Record have reported that the iconic No. 8 is keen to acquire the Slovakian, who is currently a free agent.

Preliminary talks have reportedly been held with Gerrard keen on bringing the experienced centre-half to Glasgow.

The 34-year-old moved to Fenerbahce from Liverpool in 2016, but his contract with the Turkish outfit has now expired.

It is Gerrard's third attempt at signing Skrtel - who he played alongside for eight years - with the 39-year-old said to have attempted a deal two times prior to this.
