Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk faces new Messi and Ronaldo battle as Jurgen Klopp takes on Pep Guardiola

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been shortlisted for another award alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

And Jurgen Klopp will again go head-to-head with Premier League rivals Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino as the Reds' remarkable last season continues to be recognised.

Liverpool won the Champions League by beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final in June having accrued a club record 97 Premier League points in finishing narrowly behind champions Manchester City.

Van Dijk was a stellar performer throughout the campaign and was named PFA Player of the Year.

Last week, the Dutchman beat both Barcelona's Messi and Ronaldo of Juventus to be named UEFA Men's Player of the Year.

And now the Reds centre-back has made it to the final three of The Best FIFA Men's Player Award alongside the same duo.

The trio are also expected to scrap it out for the prestigious Ballon d'Or later this year.

Liverpool's Alisson Becker, the UEFA Champions League goalkeeper of the season, is up for the Men's Goalkeeper Award with FIFA, progressing to the final three along with Manchester City's Ederson and Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Klopp has also been recognised for his efforts last term with a nomination for the Men's Coach Award alongside City's Guardiola and Tottenham boss Pochettino.

The winners will be announced at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Milan on Monday, September 23.
