Liverpool's value close to becoming Premier League's highest as Man Utd and Arsenal suffer

Liverpool are closing in on taking Manchester United's crown as the most valuable club in the Premier League in 2020 as the new champions have reaped the rewards of their recent success.

Jurgen Klopp has led his side to the club's first league title since 1990 and their first in the Premier League era, with their success coming off the back of last year's Champions League victory and cementing the Reds as one of the most exciting brands in world football.

A new report from the Brand Finance Review says that the Reds have been able to sustain the financial challenges that have occurred as part of the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen transfer values of squads plummet and matchday revenue completely evaporate.

Despite that, the report states that Liverpool have managed to see their value rise by £64.3million in the past year to take their overall value to £1.143billion.

That is still behind United, but the gap has now fallen dramatically after the Red Devils lost £143million to now stand on an overall value of £1.190billion, just £57million ahead of Liverpool.

The Premier League pair sit third and fourth in the overall list, which sees Real Madrid and Barcelona now almost neck-and-neck at the top after Los Blancos lost £205million this year.

Manchester City sit just behind Liverpool as the fifth of five clubs who are valued at over £1billion, although the report states that Pep Guardiola's Premier League runners up have lost some £118million during 2020.

Chelsea (overall value: £859million), Tottenham (£710million) and Arsenal (£651million) sit eighth, ninth and 10th in the list, although Arsenal's staggering loss of £150million should be seen as a huge cause for concern at the club as they remain outside of European football's elite.
