Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold sent warning by Chelsea manager Frank Lampard

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard believes Reece James has what it takes to challenge Trent Alexander-Arnold to become England’s first choice right-back.

Alexander-Arnold's displays for Liverpool this season have been so impressive that he looks primed to become England's natural option in the berth for years to come.

The Reds Academy graduate has been so good, that former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair recently told James to consider moving into the heart of defence if he wants to play regularly for England in the future.

“If I was Reece, I might be clever and try and to start playing centre-half or something because Alexander-Arnold is going to be a hard man to lodge out of that position the way that he’s playing at the moment,” he told Genting Bet.

But Lampard, speaking to Sky Sports ahead of his side’s clash with Manchester United on Monday, believes his man has what it takes to challenge the Reds star.

"I tried to get him on loan at Derby last January,” the Chelsea boss told Sky Sports.

“His delivery is too good, and when I say 'too good' I'm joking but I meant that we need to read what he's doing. We need to get bodies in the box because that's a huge asset.

"He's a great kid who's going to be a huge player for Chelsea. Without getting too far ahead, even though Trent is that good he'll be challenging him."
