Liverpool's transfer stance on signing seventh Southampton player since 2014

Liverpool will not make a move for Alex McCarthy this summer, according to reports.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper has been linked with a move to Anfield as Simon Mignolet nears the exit.

McCarthy would offer adequate cover for Liverpool number one, Alisson, who joined the club from Roma for £67million last season.

Former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was a keen admirer of McCarthy during his time at the club, and even looked into signing him for Liverpool.

But the Liverpool Echo is reporting that Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff have not discussed the keeper and will not be making a bid for him.

Liverpool have a recent history of signing Southampton players, so the news will come as music to the ears of Saints fans.

Since 2014 the Reds have poached no fewer than six Southampton players, starting with Rickie Lambert.

Following the signing of the striker, Liverpool have landed Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Sadio Mane and finally Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool have had the most success with the final pair on the list - both of whom are two of the first names on Klopp's teamsheet each week.
