Liverpool's transfer stance on Ryan Kent amid fresh reports of Rangers return

Liverpool are not set to let Ryan Kent leave for Rangers on loan, contrary to some reports.

The Reds were believed to have placed an asking price of around £12million on the winger this summer.

At the start of August, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard appeared to have accepted that meeting the cost for Kent was unlikely and beyond his budget.

The Liverpool legend said: "I haven't asked that question (to the board) but I think the answer would probably be yes.

"Jurgen [Klopp] has come out and given the answer that will come out of my mouth anyway. It has been addressed and we move on.

"The end of it? Where we are right now, yes. We respect Liverpool's stance and we thank them very much for allowing us to work with Ryan for a year."

That followed a clear declaration from Jurgen Klopp in July that "the time is over for loans" with regards to Kent.

Kent was in fine form for Rangers last season and Gerrard made no secret of his desire for a reunion ahead of the new campaign.

And reports emerged over the last few days of a possible "compromise" deal involving a loan with a view to a permanent move next summer.

The Daily Record wrote that a 'source close to the talks' told them: "Klopp has ruled out another straightforward loan but Rangers hope the additional clause, which would turn it into a permanent move at a future date, might help swing the deal in their favour."

But it is understood that a loan is not on the agenda, and no other form of deal has been suggested.

Liverpool made it clear in recent negotiations with Roma over Dejan Lovren's future that in certain situations, a loan is not seen as an acceptable form of compromise.

The Reds were seeking around €15million (£13.9m) plus bonuses for Lovren, to take a possible transfer price up to €20m.

But, as the ECHO reported last week, Roma were thought to be pushing to take the 30-year-old on loan for the campaign in Serie A which led to Liverpool walking away from the deal.

It still remains to be seen whether Rangers will be able to find the funds to make a bid for Kent ahead of their deadline day next week.

The summer transfer window closes in Scotland at midnight on Monday, September 2.
