Liverpool's top-four rivals Leicester City hit with major injury blow after Arsenal defeat

Leicester City have been dealt a big injury blow with the news that Harvey Barnes faces at least six weeks on the sidelines after being stretchered off in the Foxes' 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.

The Foxes were nine points clear of Liverpool ahead of the Reds' clash at Sheffield United. But now Leicester are set to be without key attacking midfielder Barnes for a large portion of the final run-in after he overstretched when trying to intercept a pass, pulling up sharply after 51 minutes in the loss to the Gunners.

Brendan Rodgers revealed the extent of Barnes' injury post-match, claiming that a part of the 23-year-old's knee bone had come loose.

"It's not good news. It looks like he needs an operation," Rodgers said post-match. "We're probably talking about him being out for a minimum of six weeks. A bit of the bone in his knee has come off.

"It's a bad one for him - it's a huge blow. He had a clash of knees a few weeks ago so it's been irritating him. He's had niggles with it."

Rodgers added: "The only consolation is that he's not going to be out as long as it looked like. But it's such a blow because Harvey has been outstanding all season. Hopefully he can get back for some part of the season."

It means Barnes will miss key matches against the likes of Manchester City and West Ham United. The Foxes are also without fellow influential attacking midfielder James Maddison, who is set to miss the next few weeks with a hip problem.
