Liverpool's Sadio Mane nets Senegal brace in AFCON showdown but misses golden opportunity for hat-trick

Liverpool striker Sadio Mane was at the heart of the action for Senegal on Monday night as his side booked their place in the last-16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mane, who missed Senegal's opening Group C win over Tanzania through suspension, saw a first-half penalty saved by Kenya's goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.

And to add to his dismay the 27-year-old later received a booking as tensions heightened in the must-win clash.

Moments later Senegal took the lead through Ismaila Sarr, with Mane adding a quick-fire brace soon after to seal a 3-0 win.

The superstar kept his cool after his earlier spot-kick miss in the 78th minute to bag his second of the match.

Aliou Cisse's side will take on Uganda on July 5 as the Lions of Teranga look to advance into the quarter-final stage of the competition.
