Liverpool's reported 'Dejan Lovren replacement' speaks out on transfer speculation

Sevilla defender Diego Carlos has responded to transfer speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool.

The 27-year-old Brazilian centre-back, who was signed by the La Liga outfit for a fee of £14 million last summer from French side Nantes, has been name-checked as a potential replacement for Dejan Lovren at Anfield this summer.

Via Estadio Deportivo, when asked directly whether he had received an offer from the Reds, Carlos said: "If I ever leave Sevilla, it would be to go to a much bigger club, because Sevilla is already a great [club].

"So far, my agent does not talk to me about those situations.

"I am not interested to know about other teams.

"I always tell him that, if he is going to tell me something, then it [must] be something firm.

"He should not come to me with stories, because I must have my head in Sevilla."

Carlos is thought to be under contract at Sevilla until 2024, with his current deal having a release clause of around £65 million included in it.

In Spain, it is compulsory for every player to have a release clause included in their contract.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are also reportedly monitoring the defender.

Meanwhile, the likes of Arsenal, West Ham United and Tottenham have all this week been named as potential suitors for Lovren, who almost left Liverpool last summer, only to remain put when a move to AS Roma fell through.
