Liverpool's Red Bull relationship reinforces decision to ignore Patson Daka

Liverpool have developed a relationship with the Red Bull network over the years, with several players representing the Reds after coming through the likes of RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.

So obvious was the link that after signing Takumi Minamino some years ago, the official Salzburg Twitter account shared an image titled 'Salzburg goes Anfield' and it featured pictures of Sadio Mane and Naby Keita alongside Minamino, alongside their departures dates.

Ibrahima Konate has since followed from Leipzig in the past few weeks, with Timo Werner's signature explored last summer before his eventual move to Stamford Bridge.

The relationship has been deemed as no coincidence by the former head of sport and development for the energy drink company, Ralf Rangnick.

The 63 year-old ensured that all clubs under the Red Bull name would be aligned during his time in the role, and he has previously talked about Jürgen Klopp, stating: "He [Klopp] does not need to thank me, but it's definitely no coincidence that he has four former players of mine, because it shows that he is looking for the same kind of players with the same assets."

"It is a very proactive style of football. High pressing, fast, counter-attacking, exciting and above all else, entertaining. Jürgen - like myself - likes to press high with the back four on the halfway line and this is pretty similar to my approach. We are not big fans of square and back passes."

By identifying players who have been shaped to compete for Red Bull, Liverpool effectively shrink the potential risks associated with leaving one team to perform for another, as such a change can impact performances in a negative manner.

Liverpool 's awareness of the talents held by Red Bull poses an interesting question regarding Patson Daka, who recently secured a £23m move to Leicester City.

The Zambian striker has scored an impressive 51 goals in the Austrian Bundesliga over the past two campaigns, with 27 scored last season alongside four assists registered.

Still just 22 years-old, Daka is recognised as a big prospect and he would have added to Klopp's offensive ranks, but Liverpool opted against adding him to their squad.

The exact reasons why remain to be seen but given the club's connection to Red Bull, it is reasonable to suggest that Liverpool have made a calculated move in looking elsewhere, with more readymade talents linked.

The Reds have gradually began to target players who are closer to 24 years-old, with an ability to deliver immediately alongside bags of potential to reach a greater level in the process, with Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane acting as perfect examples.

Daka could evolve into a highly capable performer in England but ultimately, Liverpool's relationship with Red Bull and their decision to pass up on his services suggests that the club wish to aim higher.
