Liverpool's Premier League title rivals Man City suffer major Aymeric Laporte set-back

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Aymeric Laporte will be sidelined for six months.

Laporte was stretched off during his side's 4-0 victory over Brighton at Etihad before the international break, and has since flown to Barcelona for surgery on his injured knee.

And when asked in his weekly press conference about the extent of his centre-back's injury, Guardiola confirmed he expected to be without the former Athletic Bilbao man till February.

"Long. Five months, six months. Next year for sure, January, February," the Spaniard said.

But there was better news for City fans with Guardiola confirming that John Stones is back in contention for selection this weekend.

The former Everton defender has been sidelined for the last month with a thigh strain, but Guardiola confirmed the England international was back in training before replying with a "yep" when asked whether he could start in Saturday’s game against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Manchester City currently trail Liverpool by two points in the Premier League table with the Reds hosting Newcastle United at Anfield tomorrow lunchtime.
