Liverpool's Premier League opener against Norwich disrupted by streaker at Anfield

Liverpool's first game of the Premier League season against Norwich was disrupted by a streaker in the closing stages.

The Reds were 4-1 up when a male supporter ran onto the field from the away end as James Milner was being introduced as a substitute for Roberto Firmino.

The incident was not shown on the Sky Sports coverage but caused a loud response from fans at Anfield before he was restrained by stewards and escorted off the field.

The players were gathered in the Norwich box at the opposite end of the pitch ahead of a corner when the fan ran and slid face first across the turf just past the halfway line.

It proved a night to forget for Norwich on their return to the Premier League, as they were comprehensively beaten by Jurgen Klopp's side.

A Grant Hanley own goal and strikes from Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi put the Reds 4-0 up at half-time before Teemu Pukki struck a second half consolation for the visitors.

The second half was also delayed by an issue with one of the headsets of the officials, with an assistant referee needing a replacement as players waited on the field for the action to resume.

The incident in the dying seconds comes after Liverpool's Champions League final win over Tottenham was disrupted by a streaker in June.

Russian swimwear model Kinsey Wolanski ran onto the pitch in a publicity stunt which hit the headlines in Madrid and disrupted the first half of the showpiece game.
