Liverpool's new Covid infections are down by more than a quarter

New positive Covid tests are down by more than 25% in Liverpool.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, there were 1,083 cases in the week ending April 17 in Liverpool. That's 437 fewer cases than in the previous seven days.

It meant Liverpool's week-on-week percentage change figure fell by 29%.

Each area of the city region logged drops in Covid infections. The drops were: 27% in Knowsley; 29% in Liverpool; 30% in Halton; 37% in St Helens; 31% in Sefton; and, 35% in Wirral.

The local government areas of Cheshire West and Cheshire, Warrington, West Lancs, all also logged drops in positive Covid tests.

In England, there were 153,584 cases in the week ending April 17, which was 75,974 fewer cases than the previous week.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 1,083 cases in the week ending April 17, which is 437 fewer cases than the previous week. This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure decreased by 29%. The latest infection rate was 216.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Wirral

Wirral's positive tests came to 866 cases in the week ending April 17, which is 466 fewer cases than in the previous seven days. This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure dropped by 35%. The latest infection rate was 267.0 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 344 positive tests over the last week - that's 147 fewer cases than in the previous week. This means the week-on-week percentage change figure dropped by 30% in Halton in the week ending April 17. The latest infection rate is 265.1 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 458 cases in the week ending April 17, which is 264 fewer cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate in St Helens is 252.9 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure decreased by 37%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 387 cases in the week ending April 17, which is 140 fewer cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 253.9 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure decreased by 27%.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 801 cases in the week ending April 17, which is a 353 fewer cases than in the previous week. The latest infection rate is 290.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases decreased by 31% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 3,939 positive tests over in the week ending April 17, which is 1,807 fewer cases than in the previous week. This means the week-on-week percentage change decreased by 31%. The latest infection rate is 231.33 cases per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 605 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 17, which is 325 fewer cases than the previous week. The week-on-week percentage figure decreased by 35%. There was an infection rate of 288.92 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 1,145 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 17, which is 400 fewer cases than the previous week. The latest infection rate is 333.02 cases per 100,000 people, and the week-on-week percentage decreased by 26% in cases.

West Lancs

There were 324 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 17, which is 76 fewer cases than the previous week. The latest infection rate in West Lancs is 282.98 cases per 100,000 people, and the week-on-week percentage dropped by 19% in cases.

England

In the week ending April 17, England recorded 153,584 coronavirus cases, which is 75,974 fewer cases than in the previous seven days. The week-on-week percentage decreased by 33% in England. There was an infection rate of 271.59 per 100,000 people.
