Liverpool's Mohamed Salah set to rekindle Sergio Ramos rivalry in summer showdown

Mohamed Salah and Sergio Ramos look set to renew their rivalry this summer after their countries were paired together in the draw for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

The two famously clashed during Real Madrid’s win over Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final in Kiev.

The night was arguably the lowest point of Salah’s Liverpool career after he was forced off in tears after just half-an-hour.

Following a tangle with the Real skipper, the forward suffered a shoulder injury that would also impact his contribution for Egypt at the World Cup the following month.

Ramos claimed the incident had been 'blown out of all proportion' afterwards and that Salah had later told him he was okay with it.

The Liverpool man, though, responded, saying: "He sent me a message, but I never told him it was 'fine'."

The two missed out on a reunion earlier this month after Ramos missed his side’s Champions League quarter-final against the Reds through injury and illness.

But it now looks like the two may come face-to-face this summer with Egypt and Spain having been drawn in the same group for this summer's football tournament.

The two countries will be joined in Group C by Argentina and Australia with the competition set to run from July 21 until August 7.

Although 35, Ramos revealed last year that he would not turn down the chance to represent his country at this summer’s event.

It is now expected that the centre-back will not only take part, but will captain Spain as he aims to add to his already impressive collection of international honours.

While speaking last month, Egypt coach Shawky Gharib suggested Salah is prepared to represent his country at this summer’s Olympics.

Jurgen Klopp has been understandably reluctant to be without the forward for pre-season, but Gharib is keen to include Salah in his squad for the competition.

He said: "I have made it public that I'd like to have him on board in our Olympic campaign and he hasn't refused, which means he also wants to play with us.

"Salah's participation in the Olympics is endorsed by the state, represented by the Sports Ministry and the Egyptian Football Association, in our concerted effort to garner an Olympic medal in football for the first time.”

Before he continued: "Salah, as one of the three best players internationally, will lift the Pharaohs to a whole new level in the Olympics. His presence with us will make a huge difference."
