Liverpool's Mohamed Salah praised as being a world-class talent without ego

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is now one of the world's top three players but while he is operating on a similar level to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, he retains his humility.

That's the verdict of his Egyptian international team-mate Trezeguet as the pair prepare to face each other in the Premier League with Aston Villa hosting the Reds .

Trezeguet – real name Mahmoud Hassan – told Aston Villa's website : “Mo is a respected person, he is excellent with his friends.

“He is just like any other squad member of the national team. He does not make us feel that he is the second or third best player in the world.

“His personality is great, and we are proud of him in Egypt. I wish him success, always.

“I also pray he finds himself in the highest places he wishes for, God willing.”

The 25-year-old midfielder admits that his newly-promoted side cannot lose their focus at any point when it comes to trying to contain Salah's threat when they meet at Villa Park.

He said: “You must always be on your guard with him because he is a good finisher in games.

“There are players like this, and during the game we must pay close attention to them, and make sure they are tightly marked throughout the game.

“During the game you hardly notice they are there but just when you feel that you have them under control this is the time when you realise how great they are as players.

“Salah is a great player and when his club or country really need him in games this is where he repays the trust they place in him.”

Trezeguet joined Villa from Turkish club Kasimpasa over the summer for an £8.75million fee and he reveals that Salah was always keen for him to join him in the same division.

He said: “We always talk together, when I was about to come to England I had other offers that were maybe more significant, not in terms of the league, but more attractive financially.

“And the teams were high profile in the countries where they play but I chose Aston Villa because it is a big team and it has always been my dream to be in the Premier League.

“He always used to talk to me, and he would tell me that I should come here because here I would be able to do things for my country and for myself.

“He encouraged me and told me I should come here even if the other offers are bigger, you must come to England.”
