Mario Balotelli is understood to be weighing up a move to FC Sion after the Swiss club’s chairman confirmed they are in talks to sign the striker on loan from Liverpool.

The Italian has been training alone after being informed he is not in Jürgen Klopp’s plans for this season. Balotelli has been linked with a return to Italy having spent last season on loan at Milan, although proposed moves to Chievo and Sassulo have failed to materialise.

Now it appears that Switzerland could be the former Internazionale, Juventus and Manchester City striker’s next destination after FC Sion’s president Christian Constantin confirmed he has held talks with Balotelli’s representatives in London.

“I can confirm we’re discussing about a possible loan of Balotelli,” Constantin told Ticinonews.ch. “We’re progressing but I can’t say yet if the transfer will be successful or not.”

Balotelli is believed to be considering the proposal but has yet to decide whether to join a club who finished sixth in the Swiss Super League last season. His potential arrival could mean the departure for the Senegal striker Moussa Konaté, who was tracked by Tottenham this summer and has been linked with Hull more recently.

Sion are already set to lose Edimilson Fernandes, who flew to London on Wednesday for a medical after West Ham agreed a fee of £5.5m for the 20-year-old.
