Loris Karius has enjoyed a positive start to life on loan back in Germany after earning praise from his new manager following his debut for Union Berlin.
The Liverpool goakeeper signed for the Bundesliga outfit last month, having endured a controversial two-year stint on loan with Besiktas in Turkey.
Still trying to rebuild his reputation after his horror showing for the Reds in the 2018 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, the 27-year-old was an unused substitute in Union Berlin's 4-0 victory over Mainz in their final outing before the October international break.
But he enjoyed a 'positive' debut for his new side against Hannover 96 in a 4-1 friendly win on Thursday, with manager Urs Fischer suitably impressed with his new recruit.
“[The first thoughts are] positive – it wasn’t easy for him,” he said, per Bild. “In the first half, he had almost nothing to do. A shot that he had to keep – otherwise he was unemployed."
Denied a clean sheet after being caught out by a short corner, Fischer was critical of his defence as a whole rather than laying the blame at Karius ' door.
"We just didn't do it well," he said. "We weren't ready."
