Liverpool's latest injury problem as star set to be ruled out of RB Leipzig clash

James Milner seems almost certain to miss Liverpool's Champions League clash at RB Leipzig after the Liverpool midfielder became the latest Reds player to pick up an injury.

Milner was forced off early in the Reds' Premier League clash at Leicester City on Saturday, when he was replaced by Thiago Alcantara.

The Spanish international's fairly patchy start to Liverpool life continued when his loose challenge on Harvey Barnes produced the free-kick that led to the Foxes' disputed equaliser, with James Maddison's strike setting up the hosts for a 3-1 win.

Milner's early departure saw Liverpool depleted even further in midfield, with Jordan Henderson currently needed in defence and converted midfielder Fabinho joining the rest of the club's senior centre-backs on the sidelines.

Speaking after the match, Jurgen Klopp said of Milner: “Hamstring, I think.

“That’s what he said. He felt only a little bit but he didn’t want to take the risk, we didn’t want to take the risk, so we took him off.

“We’ll see how it develops, but yeah, hamstring.”

Any hamstring issue, however serious, would seem certain to rule Milner out of the Leipzig match, which is taking place in Budapest due to coronavirus restrictions prohibiting Liverpool's entry into Germany.

The midfielder has become the 10th Liverpool player currently out injured, with Klopp confirming that January signing Ben Davies and forward Divock Origi had suffered new issues before the Leicester game.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Caoimhin Kelleher and Diogo Jota are also on the sidelines as the Reds continue to count the cost of injuries.
