Liverpool's Kylian Mbappe transfer dossier 'drawn up six years ago'

Liverpool had their eyes on Kylian Mbappe six years ago - before he'd even signed a professional contract.

The PSG star is now one of world football's leading lights following his £116m move from Monaco in 2017.

Mbappe is into his third year at the Parc des Princes and already there are suggestions he could seek a new challenge elsewhere.

The Parisians are in contract talks with the World Cup winner, but had Liverpool acted differently all those years ago he could already be playing at Anfield.

Liverpool created a dossier on Mbappe in the latter stages on 2014 when the French star was just 16-years-old, reports the Independent.

He made his debut for Monaco in December 2015 - becoming the club's youngest ever player in the process.

An excellent 18 months in which he helped the club from the Principality reach the last four of the Champions League earned him a move to PSG.

But Liverpool, alongside Real Madrid, have been the most prominent name touted as Mbappe's next destination should he look to move on.

And he did little to quieten the rumour mill when he heaped praise on the Premier League champions elect, despite claiming he is "100%" happy in Paris.

"What Liverpool do in this moment is amazing," Mbappe told BBC Sport. "They're like a machine, they've found a rhythm and are like 'we play again, we play again'.

"They've lost zero games. When you watch you think everything's easy but that's not easy. The guys are focused, they play games every three days and they win, they win, they win.

"Now the problem is that everybody watches Liverpool, and everybody watches what we can do against them, so now they have to show they are strong again but it's a very good team with a very good manager."
