Liverpool supporters have long accepted the chances of any major incomings this month are pretty slim.
Despite the ongoing issues at centre-back, it would take a further major injury - or the possibility of a deal too good not to pursue - for the Reds to make their move.
After all, less than two weeks remain with Jurgen Klopp's side having already played three games in January with another four remaining.
However, that's not to say there won't be any business for the world champions to attend to over the coming fortnight.
The loans
January is the month traditionally when under-23 players are given the opportunity of a loan move elsewhere to gain first-team experience.
Liam Millar, the Canada international winger, has already switched to League One side Charlton Athletic for the remainder of the season.
He is unlikely to be the only one departing. Sepp van den Berg has attracted the interest of a number of clubs from both home and abroad, with Liverpool willing to allow the 19-year-old to exit.
Both Ben Woodburn and Morgan Boyes recently returned from spells at Blackpool and Fleetwood Town respectively, and could welcome another chance of a temporary move.
The departures
With Klopp content with his senior options, it would be a surprise if any major departures are sanctioned given Liverpool are still competing on three fronts.
Adrian is in the final six months of his contract but Klopp prefers to have three senior goalkeepers in his ranks.
Divock Origi has seen game time limited this season but, as shown by his run-out against Manchester United at the weekend, there remains an opportunity for the Belgian to make an impact.
Instead, any exits will come from the Academy ranks, with Liverpool keen to move on Yasser Larouci for a fee before deadline day given the French left-back is a free agent in the summer.
