Liverpool 'Invincibles' go 365 days unbeaten in the Premier League

Liverpool kept their hopes of replicating Arsenal's 'Invincibles' season alive as they created an unbeaten record of their own to kick off 2020 with a bang.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane set Liverpool on their way to beating Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday night to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to 37 games, with 31 wins and five draws.

The last time Jurgen Klopp's Reds lost in the League was against Manchester City on January 3rd, 2019 - and their win over the Blades ensures that Liverpool will go unbeaten in the top flight for 365 days.

Goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane either side of a Roberto Firmino strike earned Pep Guardiola's side a 2-1 win - a result which was to prove decisive in a nail-biting title race.

If Klopp was hoping for a response to that defeat, he certainly got it.

Despite disappointment in the title race, Liverpool won the Champions League and now sit 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League - and they also have a game in hand over second-placed Leicester City.

The Reds also boast a remarkable home record, having gone unbeaten at Anfield in 50 League matches, winning 40 and drawing just 10.

These statistics make it all the more remarkable that Liverpool missed out on the title in 2018/19, though Man City needed a 14-game winning run to end the season a point ahead of Klopp's men.

Liverpool are now just 12 games away from matching Arsenal's 49-game unbeaten streak - the longest in English football - but face Man City away on April 4th in what would be the Reds' chance to match the Gunners' run.
