Liverpool's iconic Strawberry Field gates are being driven through the city today

The original Strawberry Field gates are being driven around Liverpool today, to promote the opening of the iconic site.

The Salvation Army has developed the site which will reopen on Saturday, September 14 to the public.

Immortalised by John Lennon in the Beatles hit Strawberry Fields Forever, the site is set to be even more of a tourist spot when it reopens as a new heritage attraction.

Strawberry Field’s visitor experience will include an exhibition area, café and shop.

The gardens and grounds of Strawberry Field have also been redeveloped, so visitors can follow in the footsteps of the young John Lennon.

Julius Wolff-Ingham, fund raising and marketing director for The Salvation Army, said: “Strawberry Field will weave together educational, cultural, heritage and spiritual exploration in one bold, imaginative site.

"It’s going to be a vibrant visitor experience, which we hope will inspire people today as much as the place inspired the young John Lennon.”
