Liverpool's iconic Cavern Club closes suddenly as team say sorry to those planning to visit

Liverpool's world famous Cavern Club has closed '"until further notice" after new rules made it "impossible" for the music venue to stay open.

The Cavern Pub, Festival restaurant and Magical Mystery Tours will continue to operate.

The Cavern's team took to its social media account shortly after further restrictions for Merseyside were announced by Health Secretary Matt Hancock yesterday.

The announcement yesterday confirmed a upcoming ban on people mixing with other households in any indoor setting.

In a message to its supporters, The Cavern Pub said: "Due to local lockdown restrictions announced earlier today, regrettably we are forced to close the Cavern Club until further notice.

"The new regulations simply make it impossible for us to operate."

The statement continued: "We will however be keeping the Cavern Pub and Festival Restaurant open Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays. The Magical Mystery Tour will continue as normal."Live music will be on in the Pub between 6.30pm-9.30pm.

"We apologise to everyone who was planning to visit the club this weekend, and we hope you can appreciate this is the last decision we wanted to make but it is out of our control at this time. We will open our doors as soon as we feel we are able to.

"Thanks again for your support during these challenging times."
