Liverpool's hero ball boy against Barcelona takes next step in Anfield career

The quick-thinking ballboy who helped Liverpool score their fourth goal against Barcelona has taken the next step in his Anfield career.

U16s player Oakley Cannonier opened the scoring for Liverpool U18s as they won their first pre-season friendly game against Burton Albion 4-0 at the Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

The 14-year-old club academy player was thrust into the spotlight during the 2018/19 season after quickly and efficiently rolling the ball back to Trent Alexander-Arnold , allowing the defender to whip in the perfect corner to Divock Origi who scored the final goal unchallenged against the La Liga giants in the Reds second-leg of their Champions League semi-final.

In his match today Cannonier scored before Jake Cain made it 2-0 with a superb free-kick, Niall Brookwell added the third in an excellent team move before Cain completed the rout with another brilliant low-drilled free-kick.

Manager Barry Lewtas told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was good to give the boys their first minutes of pre-season and it was a pleasing performance.

"Jake scored two great free-kicks and he and Leighton Clarkson are capable of doing that for us.

"We had a lot of first-year scholars and it was good to give them a first experience at U18 level."
