Liverpool's Harry Wilson told he 'deserves to be in Premier League' after 'shrewd' Cardiff City move to sign him

Cardiff City loanee Harry Wilson should be playing in the Premier League.

That's the verdict of the player's former Bournemouth team-mate Steve Cook, who believes the Bluebirds have been "very shrewd" in securing a move for the 23-year old.

Wilson, who joined City on a season-long loan, previously spent the 2019-20 campaign with the Cherries, netting seven goals in 35 appearances.

However, the Liverpool loanee's contributions weren't enough to keep Bournemouth in the top flight.

Wilson then returned to the Reds, who initially appeared keen on selling the winger on a permanent deal this summer.

But with a move to Burnley breaking down, the Premier League champions had to soften their stance, opening the door for a move to the Championship - and to the Welsh capital.

Wilson is in line to take on his former club at the Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday night, after coming off the bench for his Bluebirds debut during the 1-0 win over Preston on Sunday.

And, while he's looking forward to seeing his former team-mate, Cherries ace Cook admits he's surprised to see Wilson back in the second tier.

“I was really good friends with Harry when he was here and still speak to him now,” Cook told the Daily Echo.

“I was disappointed for him because I felt like he deserved to stay in the Premier League. He’s a top quality player so Cardiff have been very shrewd in bringing him in.

“I’m hoping that he doesn’t have too much of an impact on Wednesday, he hasn’t played a lot of football recently so we’ll see how that goes."

Cherries boss Jason Tindall is similarly wary of Wilson's ability, having worked with the Welshman while working as Eddie Howe's assistant last term.

One area that could well be a concern is for the set-pieces, with Wilson consistently proving a threat from free-kicks for club and country.

He said: “We haven’t spoken too much about that in terms of the free-kicks, but our guys certainly know what to expect from him and how dangerous he is if you allow him space to shoot on his left foot.

“He’s a great signing for Cardiff, did very well for us and we know about Harry Wilson. He’s certainly someone we’ve got to be aware of.”
