Liverpool's Forever 21 store confirms closure one week after signs were in its windows advertising for jobs

Liverpool city centre is losing its Forever 21 store with the retailer announcing a huge closing down sale.

Signs were being put up in its windows today (Tuesday, October 8) which read "closing down everything must go" which appeared alongside ones which were advertising for Christmas staff.

Uncertainty surrounding the future of the city's Forever 21 store started last month when it closed "due to unforeseen circumstances" after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the USA.

At the time, a statement from the company said it planned to "exit most international locations in Asia and Europe" and expects to close up to 350 stores worldwide.

To add to the confusion, a spokesperson for the company later followed up by saying: "Decisions as to which international locations will be closing are ongoing. We do not expect to exit any major markets in the US.

"This does not mean that we are going out of business - on the contrary, filing for bankruptcy protection is a deliberate and decisive step to put us on a successful track for the future."

Forever 21 is based on the corner of Church Street and Whitechapel, the building was once home to Barratts Shoes.

It is not at this stage clear when the store will be closing but we'll bring you all the latest updates as soon as we receive them.
