Liverpool's five-game test and why it could shape Premier League title race with Man City

Liverpool's next five fixtures could prove to be crucial in their bid to become Premier League champions as they face three sides from the top six.

The Reds face Chelsea on Sunday before games against Sheffield United, Leicester City, Manchester United and Spurs.

Liverpool only dropped points in eight matches last term - with several of those opponents coming up over the next few weeks.

Jurgen Klopp's side have struggled away from home against teams from the top six with Spurs being their only victory last season.

Liverpool will be hoping for another win against Mauricio Pochettino's men but will want to turn last season's draws against Chelsea, United and Leicester into three points.

Daniel Sturridge grabbed an 89th minute equaliser at Stamford Bridge last season but the Reds gave away a 1-0 lead at home to Leicester when Harry Maguire's goal earned the Foxes a point.

Klopp's team also had to settle for a point at Old Trafford, unable to break down a determined United side despite dominating possession.

The German said it was though his players had been too scared to lose but vowed they would learn from the 0-0 draw in February.

Title rivals Manchester City have a much better away record against teams from the top six, winning seven since Liverpool's last victory against Chelsea. Even Crystal Palace have managed to win five.

The Reds need to overcome their poor record soon if they are to go one better than last season and the next five games gives them the opportunity to do that.

Back-to-back games against United and Spurs follow fixtures against Sheffield and Leicester.

It won't be easy for Klopp's side. The Blades showed their resilience after coming back from 2-0 down at Chelsea to draw 2-2 and Brendan Rodgers' Foxes have top-six ambitions of their own after starting the season well.

If Liverpool can continue their 14-game winning run against Chelsea they will be in a great position to pick up maximum points from the four fixtures that follow.
